Newt Scamander Movie & Book Release Date: 'Harry Potter' Movies Getting a Sequel? J.K. Rowling Tweets Character Riddle
Muggles--Potterheads, so to speak--went loco decoding a recent magical tweet from J.K. Rowling. The cryptic post reads, "Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won't tolerate this nonsense."
As teasing the 49-character anagram went, followers guessed the meaning multiple times. BBC reported that fans speculated a possible return of Harry. An initial guess went, "Harry Returns! Won't say any details now! A week off! No comment."
Is the Boy-Who-Lived coming back for good?
Apparently not--J.K. Rowling has already called time when the literary saga ended in 2007. The tweet, therefore, meant another thing.
It was when Emily Strong tweeted "Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours..." that the anagram was finally solved. J.K. Rowling bursted in exclamation tweeting, "YES!!!!!!!!!!!! People, we have a winner!"
That reveals everything: J.K. Rowling is not making a new Harry Potter book. Instead, the British author is working on the screenplay of a Harry Potter spinoff--not a prequel nor a sequel, but an extension of the wizarding world.
Last year, Daily Mail reported the upcoming film will be titled "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them." It follows the same title as the reference book featured in the Harry Potter series, specifically for the subject "Care of Magical Creatures." The plot will concentrate on the book's fictional author, Newt Scamander.
Rowling revealed that it was Warner Brothers' idea to turn the book into a film. She said, "I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts,' realised by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt."
"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" is already an existing book. It was published in 2009 by Bloomsbury.
According to the book's description, Scamander was born in 1897. His interest in magical beasts was fueled by his mother. Practically, he studied at Hogwarts, sorted under the Hufflepuff house. Later on, he landed a job at the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He also worked in the Office for House-Elf Relocation and the Beast Division.
Time reported that "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" is slated for release on November 18, 2016. David Heyman, who produced all "Harry Potter" films, will be producing the film. David Yates, director of "Order of the Phoenix" and "Deathly Hallows Part 2" will be directing it.
