Paula Patton & Robin Thicke Divorce Official: 3 Likely Reasons Why She's Had It
Celebrity couple Paula Patton, 38, and Robin Thicke, 37, are officially getting divorced.
After nearly a decade of marriage, People is reporting that Patton filed for divorce from Thicke citing irreconcilable differences and is seeking joint custody of their 4-year-old son, Fuego.
Earlier this year, Patton and Thicke made headlines when rumors circulated about a rocky marriage. Based on the reports, here are the three most likely reasons why she ended the marriage:
- Consensual Ménage-A-Trois Gone Wrong - In a report by Mail Online, the married celebrities have been involved with a third party massage therapist named Jasmine. Apparently, Thicke and the other woman decided to continue the relationship as a two-some secretly behind Patton's back. The wife found out about the supposed "affair" and the rest is history.
- Controversial 2013 VMA Performance - One of the supposed triggers that set off the inevitable end of Patton and the "Blurred Lines" singer's marriage was the outrageous performance of Thicke with Miley Cyrus last year. It is believed that Patton felt disrespected over his public behavior.
- Drugs and Alcohol Abuse - People noted that more than rumors of infidelity, Thicke has admitted to having alcohol and drug abuse problems. Entertainment Wise wrote that Patton could not stand his cheating and drug use following the success of his song "Blurred Lines."
It's a well-known fact that Patton was the one who wanted time apart, which later led to divorce. For months, Thicke had been publicly pleading for his wife's forgiveness. He even named his seventh studio album after his wife and dedicated songs to her in recent concerts.
Back in July, while appearing on Good Morning America, Thicke admitted to being at a loss as to how to win Patton back. "I actually have no idea what I'm doing," admitted the superstar, as quoted by US Weekly.
"I'm just kinda flying by the seat of my pants on this one."
Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that the divorce was filed in Los Angeles and according to a source, the "divorce is 'harmonious' and there are no real issues that will cause a conflict."
The pair met when Thicke was only 14-years-old. They wed in 2005 and had their son in 2010.
"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," said the couple to People in a statement regarding their decision to separate back in February of this year.
