Shelley Dufresne & Rachel Respess Arrested for Group Sex With Boy Student
Schools are places of learning--but two female teachers may have taken their duties a little too far.
24-year-old Rachel Respess and 32-year-old Shelley Dufresne, both Destrehan High School teachers in Louisiana, New Orleans, were arrested for allegedly having threesome sex with a 16-year-old male student.
According to Reuters, the boy himself admitted that the act was "consensual." He is now 17 years of age. However, according to Louisiana law, his "consent" at the time of the alleged act was invalid.
Happening on Sept. 12 after a Friday night football game, the sexual activity reportedly took place at Respess' apartment in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner.
Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser noted that the subjects faced the following charges: "carnal knowledge of a juvenile," "indecent behavior with a juvenile" and "contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile." The police informed that the Kenner incident imposed over 17 years of imprisonment, as well as the need to register as a "sex offender."
Glaser commented on the unethical act, "No matter what sex the victim is, everyone should be outraged." He added via ABC7, "You have an educator. Their responsibility is the safety and the education of children... They should have known better." Investigators, according to him, have "no doubt" that the teachers had sex with the student.
The boy's encounters with his teachers were eventually reported by school system officials to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office. The boy was allegedly "bragging [the act] to other students."
Nola added that the teachers were actually friends, and they both handled the student in their respective English classes. Authorities are rolling the investigation on a rumor that the Kenner incident might actually be recorded on camera.
Dufresne had been arrested in an earlier incident involving the same boy in her Montz abode. The area was about 20 miles (32 km) west of New Orleans.
Respess is an alumnus of Destrehan. She has been teaching for two years, while Dufresne has been in the profession nearly a decade. The latter has three children. They are both graduates of Louisiana State University.
Both of them were released under a $7,000 bond on Thursday. Reuters cited the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper in saying that Respess and Dufresne had been suspended without compensation.
