Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao Fight Happening on Twitter; Will 2015 Match Ever Happen?
Boxing rivals Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are sparring with words instead of their fists. The two boxing legends have taken to social media to blast each other, effectively fueling the clamor of a Mayweather-Pacquiao face-off.
According to The LA Times, following the admission of Mayweather to the Nevada State Athletic Commission that his Showtime "All Access" was staged as a promotional activity for his match with Marcos Maidana, Manny Pacquiao slammed the fast-talking Mayweather online.
"It's a new generation, a young generation," Mayweather, 37, said during his testimony via the LA Times. "We believe in going outside boxing and doing something different. Because we did something different we got better pay-per-views this time around."
Pacquiao, 35, wouldn't let this opportunity slide and took to Twitter on Thursday to say: "@FloydMayweather's testimony to the commission on All Access' authenticity tells me everything I need to know about his desire to fight me."
Never been one to take criticism sitting down, Floyd, who has an undefeated record, responded on Twitter and Instagram: "My new boxing DVD is coming soon and is called "3 Ways to Sleep". Back, Face and Butt and I'm Falling & I Can't Get Up. Miss Pac Man is broke and desperate for a pay day. Your Pay-Per-View numbers are a joke. www.themoneyteam.com" which was accompanied by three photos of Pacquiao after being knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.
According to The Bleacher Report, the two boxers have continuously failed to come to terms to finally have a match happen between them.
"Boxing fans have wanted to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. battle Manny Pacquiao ever since the two individually dominated the 2000s and made their claims for greatness," summarized the website.
"Pacquiao is now 35 with five losses on his resume, while Mayweather is 37. Though Mayweather is arguably slower than he was in his prime, he is still undefeated and the pound-for-pound No. 1 boxer in the world," cited Bleacher Report, which explains why this nearly impossible fight is still the most-anticipated match today.
Pacquiao is scheduled to face Chris Algieri this November and has openly challenged Mayweather, saying he would still like a fight to happen with "Money" sometime in 2015. Mayweather, on the other hand, has once again said he refuses to see a fight happen while Pacquiao works with promoter Bob Arum, noted the LA Times.
While there remains no official word on whether a fight will ever surface, this could be the ignition fans have been waiting for to finally see a dream become a reality.
