College Football Week 3 Preview: Best Games to Watch This Weekend, Kickoff Times, TV & Live Stream
Last week saw a lot of Top 25 college football teams defending their perch from their would-be usurpers. Some, like Oregon, were successful, while others, like Stanford, were not. Now that it is a new week in the NCAA, there are plenty of big match-ups to keep fans tuned in as they hope for their teams to advance up to the coveted number one spot in the country.
#6 Georgia vs. #24 South Carolina 3:30 EDT on CBS
On paper this looks like a major mismatch. The Bulldogs have looked nothing short of stellar since their start against Clemson, and The Gamecocks are barely inside the top 25. However, one should never discount the nature of two SEC teams going head-to-head. South Carolina looks to have worked out some major kinks in their defense and looked much improved against East Carolina. Add in the fact that Mike Davis at running back ran for over 100 yards last week, and this is one to keep your eye on. If Davis can repeat last week's performance, Todd Gurley and company will need to bring out all the stops to make it out of South Carolina with their title hopes in tact.
#4 Oklahoma vs Tennessee- 8 p.m. EDT on ABC
Another team with a lot of expectations on them, the incredibly dominant Sooners have a bit of a test against the Volunteers. Tennessee has not lost yet, beating Utah State and Arkansas State on the arm of quarterback Justin Worley. If the Vol's manage to keep their heads and use their wide receivers properly to gain some major yardage, there may be a big surprise in store for those that tune in.
#12 UCLA vs Texas 8 p.m. EDT on Fox
These are two teams that will no doubt be looking to gain some momentum on each other in week 3. UCLA may not have lost so far, but they have consistently fallen short of the great expectations that were placed on them prior to the season. Texas meanwhile was completely blown out by BYU and faces a litany of injuries and suspensions. What the Longhorns have as an advantage is their above average defense. Couple in the fact that they have a strong running game and a Bruins defense that has struggled often, and the Texans will probably bounce back this week and make a game of it.
East Carolina vs #17 Virginia Tech 9 a.m. EDT on ESPN and Streaming on Watch ESPN.
The Hokies are the ones who upset Ohio State last week, but now it is them that has to look over their shoulder at the Pirates. East Carolina knows how to pass the ball fairly effectively, so they may be ready to put that against one of the best secondaries in the country. If Virginia Tech wants to remain in the Top 25, they need to keep the Pirates offensive game off balance to succeed.
