Rosario Dawson Reveals She Was a Virgin Until 20 Years Old
The actress revealed quite a lot about herself in an interview with Cosmopolitan for Latinas Fall 2014 issue - including her virginity.
Dawson, who went for a full frontal nude scene in the 2013 movie "Trance," suggested that she wasn't always as sultry and as sexually appealing as now.
"I was a virgin until I was 20 years old!" she told Cosmopolitan for Latinas in an interview.
She added that her mother's situation somehow veered her away from making sex a priority. "My mother was raising five kids on her own, I wasn't just going to sit back and be a horny teenager and continue some cycle of teenage pregnancy - I wanted more opportunities."
True enough, Dawson did get one opportunity - and a big one at that!
According to her, the very first movie offer she received was when she was 15 years old. Mail Online reported that Dawson's debut movie is the 1995 flick, "Kids." Ironically, the Larry Clark movie centers on sex during the teenage years and even tackles substance abuse and HIV.
Dawson's window of opportunity threw in more movies her way including "Men in Black II" in 2002, "Rent" in 2005, the 2010 film "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and most recently, "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," the sequel to "Sin City" which she also starred in.
The actress, however, is not only making an impact on the big screen. Roughly 10 years ago, Dawson and her mother got involved with Voto Latino, an organization dedicated to get Latinos voting, she said in the interview.
Asked how she expects to get people excited about voting, she replied:
"It's not just about voting. I know it sounds crazy, but it makes a major difference to be involved. Think of census forms: In wealthy neighborhoods, they're all filling them out. Why? Because if they didn't, they wouldn't get a shot for another 10 years to get that money into their community."
She concluded, "I think part of the issue is the ease of the registration process. Ultimately, we would hope to get automatic or mandatory registration."
Dawson also revealed Voto Latino's goals for 2015 which involves having "more women of color in politics." She explained, "It's not just about getting out there to vote, it's also about who you vote for."
Catch Rosario Dawson in three other upcoming films namely "The Captive," "Top Five" and "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis" where she showcases her voice acting skills as Wonder Woman.
