Scarlett Johansson Too Busy for 'Black Widow' Movie?
Scarlett Johnson as Marvel's Black Widow has been an instrumental part in a number of superhero franchises including "Iron Man", "Captain America", and the "Avengers."
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the creation of a Black Widow stand-alone film with fans clamoring for a movie about the femme fatale secret agent.
Now, "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr., has weighed in on the alleged film. During the actor's appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, USA Today asked the 49-year-old for his comments on the delay of the solo-film for Black Widow.
"Doesn't Scarlett deserve a break?" rebuffed the actor with a laugh.
The actor noted that Johansson is expecting what many believe to be a son with fiancé Romain Dauriac and that she has been a mainstay in other studios--recently headlining the non-Marvel film, "Lucy."
While he does see the hectic schedule of the 29-year-old, he also agrees that Scarlett's got the pull to make the film a success.
"Look, I think that the interesting thing particularly after Guardians with Zoe (Saldana), (or) even from the first Iron Man where Pepper was kind of this really - to me the Iron Man franchise would never have taken off without (Gwyneth) Paltrow.
"There's something about her that grounded the story. She's not your typical lady in a superhero movie, and then by Iron Man 3 she's swallowing serums and putting on suits and kicking (butt) and all that stuff," continued "The Judge" actor.
"Lucy" was one of the biggest summer blockbusters that easily trumped male-led movies like Dwayne Johnson's "Hercules."
Aside from Scarlett, he also weighed in on "Avengers" co-star Jeremy Renner who stars as "Hawkeye" in the upcoming "Avengers" sequel. Marvel has done great with its series of superhero movies and in turn, so many now deserve a franchise, noted MTV.
"The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise. I think Jeremy Renner is - when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he's just a rockstar, a badass. And Ruffalo is pumped. He does great (work)," revealed Downey.
Not only that, he's also supportive of a Hulk franchise!
"I'd like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that's been one of the toughest ones to get right. But I'm sure that my parent company is feeling expansive and and bold after the summer they've had."
While these films haven't been confirmed, you can catch the crew fighting for the universe in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opening in theaters May 1, 2015.
