Denver Broncos News: Wes Welker Suspended for Drug Use
Denver Broncos receiver, Wes Welker, was handed with a four-game suspension after he was found to have violated the NFL's policy which bans the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
It was noted in an NBC on Yahoo Sports report that Welker was positive for a banned amphetamine. It was added that the Broncos receiver has also become one of the famous players in the league slapped with the drug use violation. He is known in the NFL for being the player with the best offensive moves.
Recently, he has also sustained a concussion and has been recovering ever since but NBC on Yahoo Sports said that regardless of his recovery period, he will still miss four games due to his suspension.
Wes Welker told Denver Post in an E-mail that he was shocked with the news. "I want to make one thing abundantly clear: I would NEVER knowingly take a substance to gain a competitive advantage in any way. Anyone who has ever played a down with me, lifted a weight with me, even eaten a meal with me, knows that I focus purely on what I put in my body and on the hard work I put in year round to perform at the highest levels year-in and year-out,"
He also gave a piece of advice to all young football players saying "there are no shortcuts to success." He also slammed the reason for his suspension and noted that he has never been interested with performance enhancing drugs.
"Because under no scenario would they ever apply to me, but I now know, that (drug-policy procedures) are clearly flawed, and I will do everything in my power to ensure they are corrected, so other individuals and teams aren't negatively affected so rashly like this," Welker explained.
He also said that he is confident that he can overcome this obstacle in his life and career like he did in the past.
"Thank you for the outpouring of support, and I want Bronco nation to know, that no one and no thing will get in the way of our goal as a team, to bring Mr. Bowlen the trophy he and this great region deserve."
The Broncos, on the other hand, were also angered with the NFL decision of suspending Welker for four games. But the Denver Post explained that the decision was given earlier to give the team enough time to plan.
The NFL found that Welker tested positive for the amphetamine Adderrall and his suspension is set to begin Wednesday.
NBC on Yahoo Sports noted that he will be replaced with free agent Emmanuel Sanders and rookie Cody Latimer as he will not be allowed to practice with the Broncos during the span of his suspension.
