Joan Rivers Reportedly "On the Road to Recovery"
It has been five-days since the notoriously funny Joan Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital after she stopped breathing during a routine medical procedure. Rivers was put into a medically induced coma to allow doctors to assess the possible brain injuries that come from oxygen deprivation. Rivers' remains in critical condition, although her television network, E!, is reporting that Rivers' is slowly making a recovery.
Rivers' daughter has been extremely quiet during the ordeal, only releasing small statements that have confirmed Rivers' being on life support. "At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."
While there is little positive news coming from Rivers' daughter, fellow E! colleague Ken Baker seems to think that Rivers is in better condition than previously supposed.
"I spoke to someone who is close to the situation and has been to the hospital," Baker said. "She is still in serious condition, however, the source that I spoke to said things are progressing. She is on the road to recovery... this is not some dire, doomsday situation like you may have read."
A source spoke with E! News complimenting Rivers' daughter on how she is handling the situation. "She is a rock. She is calmer than I've ever seen her," the source said. "She is her mother's daughter and she's tough as nails. She's the person keeping everyone together."
In response to Rivers' hospital stint, E! has elected to hold off on shooting Rivers' show on the network. "We will not be producing a 'Fashion Police' this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa's return in front and behind the camera," a rep said. "E! will be airing two 'E! From Fashion Week' specials that will deliver the latest news and information from the highly-anticipated event."
If anyone could make a full recovery from a traumatic cardiac arrest incident Rivers is the ideal candidate. Although she is 81 years old, Rivers' is still extremely active in the entertainment industry with her undying spunk and comedic timing.
