iWatch Reportedly Coming Sept. 9th
It won't be long now. Apple will reportedly officially announce its first smart watch when it unveils the iPhone 6 on September 9th. So in just under two weeks the world will get its first glimpse at Apple's take on what wearable tech should be. After Google unveiled Android Wear earlier this year, many felt that Apple had fallen behind in the smart watch race. Yet after initial Android Wear models (notably the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live) failed to impress, Apple may yet have a chance to bring the first 'must-have' wearable to market.
The latest report indicating that Apple would be releasing the 'iWatch' sooner rather than later came from John Paczkowski. He also claims that the device will have heavy integration with iOS 8's HealthKit and HomeKit applications. You might remember that Paczkowski had stated earlier this summer that the iWatch would be announced in October, a month later than the iPhone 6 press event. He did state that Apple would still have an October tech event, most likely to debut its new iPad and Mac hardware.
Paczkowski referred to Apple's fall product lineup as the "best product pipeline in 25 years," and that Apple would have "more than enough hardware to fill two events."
This announcement comes on the heels of a news that the 'iWatch' due to production problems wouldn't be released until next year. So, Apple fans should be taking all of these reports with a grain of salt. There could be truth to both of these recent stories, though, and Apple could still announce their first smart watch in September but not launch it until later.
The 'iWatch' will reportedly provide users with a slew of health data by using iOS 8's new HealthKit suite to aggregate health and fitness stats from all sorts of different fitness apps. Little is known about the hardware of the device itself, though. Some reports have claimed that the wrist strap will provide functionality and might even be interchangeable depending on the occasion.
Some have suggested that the device will come in two sizes, likely one for men and one for women. A 1.5-inch and 1.3-inch AMOLED display could be what consumers will have to choose from when the 'iWatch' launches. Yet, other rumors suggest the display could be as large as 2.5-inches.
