iOS 8 Release Date, Features & Download: QuickBoard Coming to New System; Offers Unique Functions
Apple fans are in for a treat when the new iOS 8 is released to the public. The upgraded operating system features a new custom keyboard that will make texting much easier and quicker.
A third party keyboard has been one of the most consistently requested feature users have been clamoring for and Apple has granted your wishes with the QuickBoard's third-party keyboard.
MacRumors reports that "iOS 8's third-party keyboard support will also allow new entrants into the customized keyboard arena, with developers bringing us apps that offer all kinds of different functions to improve the way we use our keyboards."
Additionally, "One such developer, Kevin Wolkober, has created a quick text insertion keyboard that offers a unique function we haven't seen with previously previewed keyboards."
The keyboard is set to launch this fall and utilizes three separate keyboards --TextBoard, MeBoard and LocationBoard -- that enables users to store data and commonly used text to minimize having to type the same thing over and over. The data saved in the QuickBoard app can be used in other applications. The data is stored and when you need the frequently keyed in data, all you have to do is tap the globe icon to activate the feature and choose the text that you'd like to insert.
On Apple's Website, it describes its iOS feature QuickType as Apple's "smartest keyboard ever." Wth QuickType, "iOS 8 brings the biggest changes to the keyboard since the very ï¬rst iPhone. Now you can tap to choose the perfect suggestion for your next word. And for the ï¬rst time, third-party keyboards will be available. Typing as you know it might soon be a thing of the past."
Unlike traditional auto-correct features, the QuickType keyboard is geared for contextual prediction. With the latest technology on predictive applications, you and your device will be in tune. Taking into account each users' style, iOS8 and its new feature learn and adjust to you making your devices much more efficient.
Wolkober shares via MacRumors that the keyboard is still in its beta testing phase but will be released for download soon after the new system is released in the fall. Details as to the price of QuickBoard has yet to be shared.
These new developments are Apple's way of giving the Apple iOS keyboard a modern upgrade. Apple is expected to launch a series of next generation devices, the most highly anticipated being the iPhone 6 only two weeks away.
