A reporter who was reported missing was found alive at the Big Bend region of Texas on Sunday.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter Cathy Frye went hiking with her husband Rick McFarland, a photojournalist for the same newspaper.

However, the two were reported missing after the couple was forced to leave the neighboring Big Bend National Park on the Mexican border when the federal government shut down. They lost track after venturing off a trail and spent several days wandering in the park with very little food and water.

On Friday, Frye and McFarland split up. Frye said that she could no longer go any further on foot. McFarland, on the other hand, reached a ranger station and a search was launched.

The search initiated on Saturday morning after they couldn't locate Frye where McFarland left her in neck of the woods. The search team grew to nearly 100 people and included dogs and helicopters.

A newspaper account said she was dehydrated when she was found at about 1 p.m. Sunday. She was airlifted and was taken to a hospital at El Paso. The details of her condition are still undisclosed to this moment.

43-year-old Frye won various awards as an investigative journalist.
