Best Buy Leaks Moto 360 Price, Specs Ahead of Release
Motorola is still waiting to officially announce its upcoming smartwatch, the Moto 360. But that hasn't stopped Best Buy from leaking some very juicy info regarding the Moto's price and specs.
According to PC Mag, a page on Best Buy's website went live "on accident" ahead of schedule and revealed, among other things, that the device will apparently cost $249. Other tid bits include the 360's resolution (320 x 290 pixels) and that the screen is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The dimensions were also revealed to be 1.8 x 1.8 x 0.4-inches, with a weight of 2.1oz. Best buy also confirmed that the device is indeed made of stainless steel.
Earlier reports suggested the Moto 360 would be far more expensive than its Android Wear counterparts, the LG G Watch ($229) and the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live ($199), but apparently Motorola wants their first smart watch to sell well. And it probably will. It was by far the most popular Android Wear device at Google's I/O conference this year, and has been almost universally praised as the first smart watch to possess the raw beauty of a classic time piece.
Whether or not the Moto 360 can live up to the hype is something we'll have to wait and see when it reportedly launches this fall. Until then we'll have to wait for Motorola's unveiling event scheduled for September 4th. It's thought that Motorola will use this event to announce the Moto 360 along with the sequel to last year's Moto X, as well as two other new devices.
The one thing we didn't learn from this leak is the exact release date. Best Buy's page simply stated that the Moto 360 will be "coming soon." But the September 4th event will almost certainly clear that up.
The complete list of specs revealed by Best Buy is as follows:
- Compatible with Android 4.3 and above
- Voice-activated by using built-in mic
- Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity
- Vibration notification
- Optical heart rate monitor
- 1.5-inch LCD screen
- Water-resistant up to 3 feet for up to 30 minutes
- Lithium-ion battery power source
- Stainless-steel frame with plastic backing
- Texas Instruments processor
The Moto 360 will be available in two different colors (black or silver) and should support interchangeable watch bands for increased customization.
