'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Christian Grey's Condo in Demand; Is There a Red Room of Pain?
Everything related to EL James' erotic fiction series "Fifty Shades of Grey" are hot commodities including Escala, the ultra-posh residential complex in Seattle that served as the true-to-life inspiration of Christian Grey's residence.
Escala actually exists and in the series, Grey, the series' fictional billionaire, lived in the penthouse of the luxurious apartment building. In his complex, he had The Playroom or what was also referred to as the "Red Room of Pain" where most of his sexcapades with Anastasia Steele took place.
According to CNN Money, as Escala apartments played a central role in the trilogy, it's been a place of interest for a large number of series fanatics. Per Erik Mehr, the real estate broker of the upscale complex, his phone has been ringing non-stop with requests from women begging to spend some time in the infamous penthouse.
"Our silly phone calls have spiked again where people want to rent the room," Mehr revealed to CNN Money. "I don't think they realize that this is a condominium building that residents live in and there is no red room."
The Inquisitr noted that with fame comes a price. In light of the building's growing popularity, security had to be increased as many eager fans have tried to get their own time in the complex.
However, there are significant perks as well. For one, the building has gotten tons of free publicity with footages of the building having been filmed. The British author behind "Fifty Shades of Grey" has also dropped by to give an exclusive book signing event for the building residents.
One thing residents cannot complain about is its effects on the property value. According to real estate website Zillow (Z), per CNN, "the median sales price for a Seattle condo has risen about 10% since 2010. The median sales price for Escala apartments, however, have surged over 75%."
The property is as popular as ever with only 6 units left that are up for grabs -- each with retail tags pegging it at over a million. Most of the residents in the building are business folks or older individuals who, according to Mehr, "would rather downplay where they live."
Apparently, James was never in the building prior to writing the book but per TV3, Escala, being one of the top living areas in the city, caught her eye and drew enough attention to be in her books.
The Daily Mail UK reported that the Seattle penthouse, where EL James' fictional characters spent most of their time together, sold for a whopping $5.95 million.
The film stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as naive and impressionable Anastasia Steele. To get a peek of how the penthouse and the playroom will be showcased in the upcoming movie out February 2015, see the official trailer below.
