He was known for his military thrillers such as "The Hunt for Red October" and "Clear and Present Danger". His works sold more than 50 million books in his writing career that spans three decades.

He created characters like the famous spy Jack Ryan. Among his 28 books, 17 topped the New York Times bestsellers list. His writing also appeared in various videogames as he co-founded the games company Red Storm Entertainment.

Tom Clancy will release his final offering to his fans as his next novel "Command Authority" will be published in December. Moreover, his most celebrated character Agent Jack Ryan will appear in cinemas in the same month.

Clancy was born in Baltimore in April 1947 near the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. According to reports, Clancy was already fascinated with naval history and engineering since he was young.

He dreamed to join the military. However, he was unqualified due to his myopia. In the end, he became an insurance salesman and worked as a writer.

"You learn to write the same way you learn to play golf. You do it, and keep doing it until you get it right. Writing isn't divinely inspired - it's hard work," Clancy said as his motto to his success.
