Obama News: Hillary Clinton Criticizes President's Foreign Policy, Now Wants to 'Hug it Out,' Will This Affect Her 2016 Presidential Bid?
Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee for president in 2016, has run into a little trouble with her former boss, President Barack Obama. In an article in the Atlantic magazine, the former Secretary of State criticized the president's foreign policy stance, setting off shockwaves through the Democratic party.
Many believe this move will hurt her chances of becoming the first femaile president, should she decide to run in 2016.
What Clinton told the Atlantic was that poor handling of the crisis in Syria by Obama is what led to the current situation and the deadly attacks from the Islamic group ISIS.
Speaking on the Obama administration's foreign policy, Clinton told the Atlantic, "The failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad--there were Islamists, there were secularists," the former first lady of the United States said in the interview. She continued, "There was everything in the middle---the failure to do that left a big vaccum which the jihadists have now filled," she concluded.
Clinton's press secretary followed up what many called a "blunder" with this statement: "Secretary Clinton has at every step of the way touted the significant achievements of [Barack Obama's] presidency, which she is honored to have been part of as his secretary of state," said Nick Merrill.
Of course, with presidential aspirations reportedly on the mind of Clinton, especially considering her failed run for the Democratic nomination in 2008, it's likely Clinton will have to mend fences with the leader of her party, the president. Merrill said that she was looking forward to "hugging it out" with the president over the remarks.
But Clinton was said to have called Obama to clarify her remarks about Syria, and Merrill said it was all hype surrounding any disagreement. Especially, since Obama and Clinton will be at a Martha's Vineyard party today.
""While they've had honest differences on some issues, including aspects of the wicked challenge Syria presents, she has explained those differences in her book and at many points since then," Merill said.
