LeBron James No Match for Stephen Curry? Warriors Player Says He's a 'Better Offensive Player'
Golden State Warriors point guard, Stephen Curry, thinks he is a "better offensive player" than four-time NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James.
In an interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Curry was asked whom he thinks is the better offensive player between him and James.
"Better offensive player - me or LeBron? That's the first time I've ever been asked that question. Um, Me. [Laughs.] It's gotta be, right?," he was quoted by Yahoo Sports as saying.
Dan Patrick response was, "LeBron is a better scorer, but I think you're the better shooter. How's that?"
"I don't know. He obviously demands a lot of attention on the floor, but I like to say I can distribute, get my teammates involved and be a playmaker as well," Curry replied.
According to Yahoo Sports, the NBA stats reflect Patrick's assessment. It explained that "James made 216 more points on 30 fewer field goal attempts" for the past season and scores "20 percent better than Curry."
NBC Sports discussed, in a separate report, that Curry is indeed a better shooter than James with the former holding a "career average of 44 percent from the three-point line" while Lebron has a "34 percent" average. But when it comes to being the better offensive player, NBC Sports is giving more credit to James because "the physical presence of James that allows him to score anywhere from the floor goes unmatched."
Curry further discussed the importance of distribution in basketball. Yahoo Sports explained that Curry generated more assists per 100 possessions than James. The Golden State guard also has a "better assist-to-turnover ratio" at 2.3 to 1.8.
Yahoo Sports also compared the points made by the two players this past season bringing the numbers to 53.3 points for Curry and 49.9 for LeBron. This, according to the report, could mean that Curry could have a point noting that he can outshoot most double teams.
Curry also chose Klay Thompson and David Lee over Kevin Love and Kevin Martin.
"I don't think you can give up Klay. We have such a good core together. You've got David Lee and Andrew Bogut, who's a great front line. If you put pieces around them, we were a great team last year, and you put the same core together another year, you've got to get better, right? That's the mission. I've got to hopefully prove that message right this year," Curry added.
