'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Erotic Hotel Pushes BDSM
The popularity of erotica fiction series, "Fifty Shades of Grey," has paved the way for a BDSM (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism and masochism) themed getaway.
Per Huffington Post, a sexually-spiced hotel named Roissy Castle can be found in Vilafranca, Spain. The hotel features 20 rooms, 500 square meters of dungeon and fully-equipped bondage gear available for the use of guests who will partake in consensual BDSM activities. The site even notes that for a more risque time, there are three private dungeons available for use.
"With the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon in full swing, I saw a business opportunity that hadn't been exploited yet in Spain," said the owner, who spoke to The Local but didn't wish to be identified.
The town where the hotel is located is quite small, with a mere 2,500 residents and not everyone is pleased with what the hotel is offering. Local officials are said to be countering the hotel's operation and have deemed it "unsuitable" for the community. Local authorities cite its close proximities to the "chapel where dozens of people come every day to visit the village's patron saint," revealed The Local.
The Mayor has put a wrench and stalled the opening slated August 1 after filing legal paperwork, calling to question some technical matters related to the establishment.
"Four emergency lights and an extinguisher, that's their excuse. The hotel's proprietors were the ones who didn't install them in the first place but they're closely linked to the local town councilor," said the businessman. "It's abuse of office. I've spoken to my lawyer and we're going to sue the town hall."
The Roissy Castle is not the only tourism establishment to capitalize on the popularity of the book series. A number of other hotels have begun offering "Fifty Shades of Grey" experiences and getaways. One of which is Seattle's Hotel Max that offers "guests a '50 Shades of Seattle' package that lets them recreate some of the novel's key moments," reported The Daily Mail UK.
Portland's Heathman Hotel is another. On its site, it writes, "You've found us. We are that hotel. The infamous haunt of main characters Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the E.L. James novel Fifty Shades of Grey."
The book series by British author E.L. James that tells the love story between an S&M practicing business magnate and innocent college graduate has amassed quite a following. Its trailer featuring co-stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, was released two weeks ago instantly went viral. In a matter of days, the film teaser pulled in nearly 40 million hits on YouTube, becoming the biggest online launch in history.
