'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Release Date, Cast & Rumors: Sequel Film in Discussion
"Guardians of The Galaxy" has squashed box office records, with a stellar $94 million U.S. debut and an estimated $160 million worldwide. The group of quirky outcasts that became an unlikely team of superheroes climbed the movie charts and is now the top August debut of all time.
With the success of this film along with other Marvel films that have been released, comic book heroes and film adaptations are here to stay. Keeping this in mind, Marvel has penciled in a sequel to the film to be released on July 28, 2017, reports the Huffington Post.
HuffPost spoke to Kevin Feige, Marvel's Studio head and speaking on the direction and future of the series, he explained: "Certainly in the two years that we spent together on this movie -- during production or in the hours and hours we spent together in post-production, finishing the film -- there can be causal comments that start as a joke or a 'What if?'"
"And we file them away, either officially on paper or in our heads, and have them at the ready when we start to officially start to put together the next film," shared Feige.
In another interview with Huffpost, this time with Director James Gunn, the man behind the film spoke about how he's been thinking ahead onto the sequel since he finished with the first screenplay.
"When I first started writing my first draft of the script, which was significantly different from the things that came before it, the first thing that I centered around was the Sony Walkman," revealed Gunn. "To me, really the heart of the film is the Sony Walkman, because that exemplifies the relationship between Peter Quill and his mother." In the beginning of the film, Quill is seen using the dated music device with "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone playing.
"Within the context of the film, I really do love 'Come and Get Your Love,' because I think that was a song that I had latched onto very early, and it solidified Peter Quill's relationship to music in the film," explained the successful director. "I have a real fondness for that song in particular."
Planet Hulk Happening?
Another rampant speculation surrounding the sequel is the cross-over between "Guardians" and the other widely successful franchise, "The Avengers" whose sequel, subtitled "Age of Ultron," is being released this year.
"The rumor is that at the end of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, The Hulk might save the world by helping to send Ultron to a different dimension via Thor's space bridge," MoviePilot reported. Hulk would then be the link between the two superhero groups.
Gunn has already addressed this persistent claim and told Indiewire's The Playist via HuffPost, "It is absolute, 100 percent bullshit."
