iPhone 6 Latest News Roundup: The Hottest Rumors, News, Leaks, and Best Inside Info
We've gathered up all the latest iPhone 6 rumors for the week and wrapped them up for you all nice and neat. Enjoy.
iPhone 6 Design Leaked
The back plate for the upcoming iPhone 6 has apparently leaked again, this time giving us our best look yet at new phone's redesign. The YouTube channel iCrackUriDevice has a nearly six minute video where they go over and compare the design changes versus last year's iPhone 5S back component. On the whole, the iPhone 6 looks to be a lot thinner than the 5S, which is saying something, and also features a new side position for its power button, presumably to accommodate the larger size of this year's model.
iPhone 6 Glowing Logo
Multiple leaks of the aforementioned iPhone 6 backplate have revealed the Apple logo is merely a hole in the backplate, instead of the typical reflective surface of previous models. This has led people to speculate that the Apple logo on the iPhone 6 may actually glow or light up, perhaps as some form of a notification feature.
Don't Count on Sapphire Glass
Repeated reports have come out recently claiming the iPhone 6 will feature the much sturdier sapphire glass covering its display. Apple has used sapphire components in previous iPhone models, namely to cover the 5S's fingerprint sensor as well as the camera lens cover. Yet a more recent report claims that there has been no observable proof up to this point that any "sapphire display production is underway at Apple's Arizona factory," reports BGR. So, maybe next year? Maybe?
October Launch?
A new report claims that the iPhone 6 may be announced in September, in accordance with annual Apple tradition, however, it may not launch until almost a month later, on October 14th. If that's the case then the iPhone 6 might be launching alongside the iWatch, new Macs and OSX Yosemite. If October does indeed see the launch of the iPhone 6, look for Samsung to be very pleased with that news.
After all, Samsung plans to launch its new phablet, the Galaxy Note 4, in September. Apple's new 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model is seen as a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Note phones. If Apple launches a month later, that could give Samsung enough time to take a serious dig into Apple's market share.
Foxconn Ramps Up Production as Release Nears
Foxconn has been manufacturing major components for iPhones and iPads for years. So it should come as no surprise that Digitimes is reporting that Foxconn's chairman, Terry Gou, is personally making sure iPhone 6 mass production is humming along without any major hickups. And that's a good thing for the China-based electronics manufacturer, because Apple has reportedly ordered approximately 70 to 80 million iPhone 6 units.
