'Star Wars: Episode 7' Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Mark Hamill Reveal Skywalker Secrets
Original "Star Wars" cast, Mark Hamill, is back on the movie set, reprising his role as Luke Skywalker alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.
Speaking to BBC, the bearded veteran, who was "contractually-obligated" to grow the facial hair, said that after 30 years, being a Jedi once again was "certainly unexpected."
"I already had a beginning, middle and end. I never thought we'd come back," he added.
Being back on the set has given the 62-year-old a lot of memories and flashbacks, which the veteran actor says "is just astonishing."
Hamill starred in the original trilogy of the franchise. The first film was released in 1977 with the other two sequels released three years apart. The franchise was then revised for three more prequels in 2002 to 2015. The franchise then switched hands from Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion.
The film will see a combination of old and new cast members. Aside from Hamill, Ford will come back as Han Solo and Fisher as Princess Leia. BBC notes that "20 Years a Slave" star, Lupita Nyong'o and Domhnall Gleeson have joined the cast.
Hamill also revealed to BBC that fellow original cast-mate Ford, 72, is "doing really well" after he broke his leg while filming the movie. He noted that "It will take more than that to stop Harrison Ford." As for the other actors, Hamill only has praises: "These kids - they are not kids - but they are so talented. They are also diverse. There are people I recognise like Andy Serkis and new people that I've never seen before like Daisy Ridley."
"It really has the spirit of that whole [Star Wars] universe, in other words, the characters are so relatable and I think that's the most important thing because no matter what kind of special effects you have, the audience has to be able to identify with each of the characters," quoted Mirror UK of the actor.
Under the direction of J.J. Abrams, Mark reports that the film will honor the legacy and spirit of the franchise. "[JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan] have done a great job in writing a script where you immediately understand where these people are and relate to them."
"Star Wars: Episode 7" is due for release in December of 2015. Are you a "Star Wars" fan? If so, are you excited about the upcoming movie release?
