iPhone 5s vs Samsung Galaxy S5: New Ad Picks on Apple Phone's Screen Size
Samsung has once again taken a swipe at Apple in its newest ad for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The South Korean tech giant blasts the iPhone's smaller screen size and pegs iPhone users as jealous smartphone owners.
"Screen Envy" is the title of the new ad which directly compares the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5S to the Galaxy S5's larger 5.1-inch display.
"Dude, iPhone might be getting a bigger screen," says the iPhone user at the beginning of the video. The Samsung S5 user simply replies, "That hasn't happened yet?"
"The ad is an obvious dig at Apple's reluctance to roll out big-screened "phablet" phones, instead opting for more manageable screen sizes with ratios both conducive the one-handed use and backwards compatibility with older apps," writes AppleInsider.
Apple's largest screen spans a mere 4-inch that's presently on its two latest iPhone models, the iPhone 5 and the newer 5S, while Samsung has varied screen sized phablets from its Mega and Galaxy series, to name a few.
After the initial interaction, a narrator quips: "You know that thing you've been waiting on for like two years, and how it's supposed to be awesome and how it's going to blow your mind? Well it's been here this whole time. But maybe you like waiting."
The 30-second clip teases users about the two-year wait for an iPhone screen upgrade which never came. A simple 4-inch boost to the iPhone 5 was the last screen upgrade to the iPhone 5S, hardware-wise, only adding a Touch ID and slimmer frame to its features.
Interestingly, Apple has kept mum throughout the latest marketing ploy of its rival company. Samsung's previous ad titled "Wall Huggers" disses the iPhone's battery performance.
Not everyone is impressed with this dig though. Tuaw wrote that Samsung may be in a bit of a "panic" given that the Galaxy S5 has not hit the company's target. "Not only did Samsung recently report a 24% drop in quarterly profits, but the 8-month old iPhone 5s continues to sell better than the recently released Galaxy S5." Additionally, with the buzz generated by Apple's alleged incoming release, it's possible people are holding off on Samsung purchases until Apple releases it's new line.
The Cupertino-based company is widely rumored to be launching a larger next-generation smartphone in its iPhone 6, expected, but not confirmed, to be released this coming September. Insiders claim that Apple will be releasing two sizes of the new model, a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variant.
