Manny Pacquiao Next Fight vs Mayweather in 2015?
The most awaited fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao could soon happen in May 2015.
A substantial amount of money is what the undefeated American boxer will be looking forward to his fight against the Filipino champ, Daily Mail reports. The same article notes that "money is just too tempting" for Mayweather who has finally expressed his willingness to go against Pacquiao after years of failed negotiations.
On the same note, a Boxing Insider source claims that Mayweather is very much interested with the amount of money that a fight with Pacquiao will generate. Bad Left Hook says that Mayweather, being one of the richest athletes in the world, has the potential of making so much money in case he decides to fight Pacquiao.
Pacquiao, on the other hand, has also proven himself to be good with the pay per view rankings, although Bad Left Hook notes that it has started to fade for the previous years.
According to Daily Mail, hints of the awaited fight surfaced two months after Pacquiao extended his contract with Top Rank. The Filipino boxer will be under contract with Top Rank until 2016 when he is also expected to consider retirement.
During the announcement of his fight against Maidana, Mayweather promised a big surprise for May next year. As noted by Bad Left Hook, a match with Pacquiao is instantly one of the top things that come to mind after Mayweather mentioned the alleged May surprise.
The Boxing Insider source also noted that Mayweather's father could have discussed in a conversation about cementing the fight though the source was not sure if Floyd Sr. was referring to Pacquiao.
But these reports remain to be rumors unless both camps release solid plans for the rumored fight and that is what boxing fans will be waiting for. Earlier interviews with Bob Arum revealed that the fight may happen but not so soon.
"We want to fight him and we're willing to discuss it at any point. There are two ways to go here. One is to do a Mayweather fight with both HBO and Showtime involved, as they did with [Lennox] Lewis- [Mike]Tyson, as I understand Mayweather is under contract to Showtime through 2015. The companies could come together and put on the show. Or, the other alternative is, if Floyd wanted to fight Manny in 2016, he could return to HBO and we could do it there," Arum was quoted by Daily Mail as saying.
