Cavs vs. Spurs Roster & Starting Lineup for 2014-15 Season: Team by Team Comparison and Predictions
The Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs are slated to be the top two contenders to bring home an NBA championship.
While the Spurs, as usual, maintained their lineup without any major offseason pick-ups, the Cavaliers have been reeling in the big fish with no signs of stopping.
After landing LeBron James, the Cavaliers have been on the warpath to strengthen their lineup to become an immediate contender.
James said in his departure letter that Cleveland is still a long way off from winning a championship, but critics and fans aren't sure he's correct. Anywhere that LeBron goes, the team instantly becomes a threat as a contender to go deep into the playoffs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed small forward Mike Miller, presumably at the request of LeBron James.
Miller was a part of the two championships in Miami, and both he and James obviously have a strong bond. With Miller draining three pointers, it will open up the floor for LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to drive down the lane.
It is still unclear what will happen to the first pick in the NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins. Initially the Cavs said that Wiggins would not be on the trading block, but the Timberwolves have insisted that Wiggins for Kevin Love is the only option.
If Love were to go to the Cavs, they would instantly become the favorite to win the NBA Finals.
After Patty Mills had a strong showing in the NBA Playoffs, the Spurs decided to sign him to a long-term deal.
With Parker and Ginobili getting up in age, it is important for the Spurs to start training the next man up.
Kawaii Leonard, the NBA Finals MVP, should be getting a contract extension any day now. Leonard is part of the Spurs young talent pool that will live on after their 'Big Three' era ends.
Tim Duncan is coming back for at least one more year. Although Duncan is 38, his body and performance on the court still reflects that of a productive player. The Spurs are always excellent at combining veteran players with youthful talent.
Over the next few seasons as Parker, Ginobili and Duncan retire, the Spurs will be in the transition stage as a team. It is key for them to acquire as many young players as they can in order to maintain their dominance.
The Spurs are not a pretty team, but they make it up in spades with their style of play. The Cavs are stacked with young talent, but nevertheless it is unproven talent.
With LeBron James and hopefully Kevin Love, the Cavs will look to build their own 'Big Three.'
