After winning stage two of Tour de France, Italian cyclist Vicenzo Nibali was in high spirits as he celebrated his win on the podium, motioning for a kiss with one of the podium girls. However, the cyclist ended up being rejected in what could be one of his most humilating exoeriences.

The 29-year-old cyclist succesfully passed a pack of riders on Sunday, bagging his first-ever victory, USA Today reported.

Nibali was given the yellow jersey during the awards ceremonies, where he also attempted to kiss a podium girl standing on his right. However, instead of granting the player a kiss, the girl shied away from him and faced the opposite direction.

USA Today added that the athlete played it cool and kissed a stuffed lion instead.

In a similar report, the Washington Post said that after the rejection, Nibali tried to "play it off" by adjusting his jersey and avoiding being totally humiliated by the incident.

The same report quoted NBC sports analyst Bob Roll as saying "This is an incredible boost of your morale."

The cyclist who awed thousands of people as he took the 201-kilometer route from York, was forced a late break in the competition, the Daily Mail noted. He also took the victory from Germany's Marcel Kittle, who is the stage one winner. On the other hand, Chris Froome finished 19th, while Mark Cavendish withdrew from the tournament after dislocating his collarbone in a crash during the game.

The Sydney Morning Herald said that aside from his collarbone injury, Cavendish also ruptured his ligaments during a high-speed crash that also took out rider Simon Gerrans on the first stage of the race on Sunday.

"When I was on the floor yesterday I knew something was wrong. It's the first time in my career I knew something was wrong," Cavendish told the Telegraph in an interview.

He added that noticed that there was something wrong with his shoulder and that it was sticking out a bit. "I was in a lot of pain, I can't move my shoulder," he addded.

It was noted in the same report that Cavendish asked for an apology to Gerrans which the latter immediately accepted.

The tour will start again on Monday, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The third stage will include a 155-kilometer path from Cambridge to London with thousands of spectators lined up along the roads.
