Miami Heat News 2014: LeBron James' Wife Posts Ohio Map; NBA Star Reuniting With Cavaliers?
With an innocuous Instagram post, Savannah James was able to spawn public alarm, which only supplements the already confusing rumor ecology around her husband's future plans in the NBA.
In the midst of the blur enveloping Miami Heat star LeBron James, his wife posted online a map of Ohio with Akron spelled out across it and a star marking the city's spot. It effectively freaked out a lot of people about the idea that James could be planning a reunion with the Cleveland Cavaliers, CBS Sports reported.
The Cavs have made known that LeBron's comeback is on their to-do list, wanting to combine his prowess to those of budding star Kyrie Irving and the No. 1 pick in the drafts. The photo--carrying the caption "Home sweet home!! The countdown is real! #330"--impressed on many that the Cavs might have accomplished that goal. The couple is from Akron and met there as high schoolers.
The Heat's golden boy in the 2014 NBA Finals, which they had lost to the San Antonio Spurs in a humiliating fashion, can opt out of his contract this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, said the report. Many have previously assumed that LeBron would re-sign with the Heat, supposedly playing a big role in organizing the group into a better-than-ever team.
An ESPN report quoted a source close to the four-time MVP as saying that the Akron post was not referring to LeBron's plans. The post refers to James' family's summer plans, the source claimed.
LeBron and Savannah usually spend the majority of the summer at their home in Akron with their two sons, ESPN added. After the loss to the San Antonio Spurs, James had said he would take a vacation with his family before considering the options.
In the social media age, CBS Sports said, it is usual for netizens to think vacation destinations are assumed coy attempts by athletes.
CBS Sports also mentioned that the couple was not enrolling their kids in an Ohio school for the fall, with relatives denying the rumor. LeBron is expected to father a baby girl, Heat president Pat Riley announced recently.
LeBron has until June 30 to opt out of his deal with the Heat, in which he is scheduled to make $20 million next season. If he does reject the contract, which has two years left, he becomes a free agent.
James indicated that he was open to becoming a free agent, ESPN said, which would afford him the same level of flexibility in 2010, when he signed with Miami after playing for Cleveland in his first seven years.
