Who says men aren't good at multitasking?

Four days before he meets Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal at the World Cup--and while recovering from a broken nose--U.S. team captain Clint Dempsey on Wedensday, released the first single from his new rap album, "The Redux."

On "It's Poppin," Dempsey shows off his ability to rap superfast, USA Today reported. He talks about scoring G's out on the green and his Texas roots among others.

It's his journey from rags to riches, a report from The Guardian added, with the player referring to himself as "Captain America" in what could be his bid to secure himself a good life after football, perhaps as "Deuce," his stage name.

The 13-track album will be released in the coming months, USA Today reported, with a part of the proceeds going to the nonprofit organization East Texas Food Bank which, according to its website, envisions a hunger-free East Texas.

The 31-year-old, who scored a goal against Ghana 31 seconds into the Group G match, recorded the album in Los Angeles two weeks before the World Cup in Brazil, with friend and rapper XO.

They also collaborated on Dempsey's first song, "Don't Tread," which became some sort of an anthem for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

"We just were having fun with it and it ended up being an album," Dempsey told the Wall Street Journal. He also collaborated with rappers and producers from his hometown of Nacogdoches, Texas.

Mike Chehadé, one of those he tapped for help, quipped that the record could help make the US team seem a little more intimidating: "We're not known as a soccer powerhouse—we're almost known for being soft. But Clint has this edge."

According to the journal, Dempsey joins a short list of football athletes who delved into the singing and rapping world, with most making it to only one or two songs.

Brazil's Ronaldinho earlier this year released a single, "Vai Na Fé." France's Youri Djorkaeff released his rap single, "Vivre Dans ta Lumière," two years after aiding his country for a win at the 1998 World Cup.

But Dempsey takes it more seriously, the report added. Even as a child he had a knack for rapping, and practiced constantly.

Music also became a refuge for him, friends told the journal, when he had to stop playing soccer temporarily while growing up due to his family's financial struggles.

Rolling Stones has this to say about the song: It's not bad at all.

Crediting the Texas rap blueprint, which the review said has always been open to a degree of amateurism, it is more about participation than moving forward. Neither Deuce or XO have innovated with the lyrics,it added.

However, that's hardly the point the report said. Dempsey once again proves his fluency, and considering the long creative lull Texas has just broken from, it is entertaining enough.

If you want to listen to it for yourself, you can go to the Wall Street Journal piece or download it from Dempsey's website.
