2014 MacBook Air Release Date, Specs & Features: Apple Releases Cheaper & Faster MacBook Air
True to a previous report of an impending MacBook Air refresh, the tech giant has indeed updated its laptop line-up.
Apple posts that the new MacBook Air line-up of devices now have faster processors and lower prices. "Now starting at $899, MacBook Air features powerful processors, fast flash storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, up to 12 hours of battery life and Apple's iLife and iWork apps, giving you everything you need to handle all your work, all day long," says the iPhone-maker.
Specifically, fourth generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors which are at least 1.4GHz have replaced the previous 1.3GHz processors, notes The Verge. The outlet notes that nothing else has been changed in terms of specs for the MacBook Air devices.
As for price, the 11-inch MacBook Air with 128GB of storage is now priced at $899. The most expensive MacBook Air, the laptop with a 13-inch screen and 256GB of storage now sells for $1,199. Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller, has mentioned that the move to drop the MacBook Air's price by $100 is partly due to the company's goal of giving people a better chance of owning an Air.
"With MacBook Air starting at $899, there's no reason to settle for anything less than a Mac," said Schiller. "Macs have never been more popular, and today we've boosted the performance and lowered the price of MacBook Air so even more people can experience the perfect everyday notebook."
According to 9to5Mac, a price drop and a slightly speedier processor are not the only things coming to Apple's MacBook Air line-up. Quoting analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, the outlet says that a 12-inch laptop may also be in the way. The rumored specs include a Retina display and a new clamshell structure that will make for a thinner and lighter Air. The alleged 12-inch MacBook Air is rumored to roll out Q2 or Q3 this year, adds Kuo.
