Air Jordan Release Dates 2014: New Sneaker Unveiled, First Two Colorways Arriving In September [Video]
Jordan Brand recently unveiled their latest signature sneaker, the Air Jordan XX9, which will be released in two colorways in September.
Michael Jordan himself, along with designer Tinker Hatfield, introduced the 29th iteration of the popular Air Jordan series, which is expected to become one of the hottest items on the sneaker market later this year.
During the event, Jordan unveiled the Chicago Bulls-themed edition of the shoe, which features a black-based upper part with red lining and white logo along with the popular elephant print, similar to that of the Air Jordan III.
"The elephant print is a unique icon that people can associate back to the brand and to Michael himself," said Hatfield, who has now designed 17 of the 29 Air Jordan sneakers.
The second edition that was unveiled during the special event features a black-based upper with an oversized orange Jumpman and "23" logo, along with a translucent outsole.
According to Nike, this colorway will be worn by Jordan Brand endorser Russell Westbrook soon - probably in one the Oklahoma City Thunder's games during the 2014 NBA Playoffs.
Nike also announced that Air Jordan XX9 will be the first basketball shoe tailored for flight, featuring a performance-woven upper part, which is said to be inspired by great Italian craftsmen.
"In the past, we've drawn inspiration from myriad places-everything from fighter jets to motorcycles-and have ended up with some pretty fun designs along the way," Hatfield said. "This year, our inspiration and challenge to ourselves was to create the best performance basketball shoe ever-and I think the XX9 and the performance-woven upper pay that off."
Over the past several years, Jordan Brand unveiled new shoes in February, but the company decided to delay this year's introduction, saying that the month of April is closer to the start of a new basketball season.
"We want to provide the absolute best performance products to our athletes, from elite high school athletes to professional players competing for championships," Jordan Brand president Larry Miller said. "My shifting to a fall launch, we ensure players around the world will have the very best in performance and style available as they prepare for the season."
More details about the Air Jordan XX9 are expected to become available in the next few weeks.
