High School Football Player Arrested on Charges for Sexually Assaulting 4-year-old Boy
Gregory Raymond Kelley, a senior at Leander High School, was arrested on charges for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy Aug. 9. The 18-year-old all district Leander football player was charged with first degree felony for aggravated assault of a child, The Statesman reported.
According to KHOU, an arrest affidavit filed in Williamson Country Court cites a sexual assault incident in July between Kelley and a 4-year old boy. Between December 2012 and June 2013, Kelley was living at a Cedar Park home located in 2000 Block of Marysol Trail, which was then being used as an in-home daycare, according to The Statesman.
On July 12, the boy who attended the daycare told his mother that Kelley was "inappropriate" with him on two occasions. Kelley allegedly exposed himself and made the boy touch him on two occasions. The same incident was described by the boy to the investigators at the Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center on July 23 during an interview.
Kelley was arrested and set free on the very same day on Aug. 9 with bail set at $50,000. Court records did not list an attorney for Kelley, according to The Republic.
On June 7, Kelley announced that he would be playing a safety position for the football program at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA), KHOU reported. "It's a great feeling," Kelley said. "I was anxious about committing and the whole recruiting process was nerve-wracking, but it's a great situation and I have no regrets about it," he continued.
Kelley was the first student athlete to commit to UTSA amidst offers from other universities like Texas State and Rice. "For me it wasn't all about how good the football school is, it's about my education and what I'm going to get out of it. Nobody really compared to the on-campus life at UTSA. It was pretty awesome [being there Thursday], everyone was really friendly - three people actually held the door open for me," Kelley told the Statesman. Kelley committed to the only safety position of the UTSA Roadrunners on his second visit at the school.
