'The Mentalist' Season 6 Episode 18 Spoilers: Jane Breaches a Social Club to Investigate a Murder [Video]
Jane sought to clear the name of an innocent man on the latest episode of "The Mentalist."
In "Silver Wings of Time," the team rushes to the scene of a bus bombing.
Patrick (Simon Baker) is instantly suspicious when he sees that only one man died in the bombing, which was carried out in a heavily populated area. The team comes to the conclusion that it was not a terrorist attack--it was a carefully calculated murder.
They soon find that the man who was murdered in the bombing is the brother of a man named Cruz who is now sitting on death row, and is scheduled to be executed in three days. But when Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) goes to tell Cruz about his brother's death, he begins to believe that the man who is about to be sentenced to death is innocent.
After reviewing the facts, Jane agrees with Abbott, so the team sets out to try and prove the man's innocence.
They visit the husband of the woman who was murdered 15 years ago, which is what caused Cruz to receive his death sentence. Shortly after, they arrest the husband of the woman who was murdered, believing he's the true culprit.
But Jane doesn't believe he's the killer. He believes it's the husband's current wife, who is his second wife.
Jane makes both the husband and wife spend the night at FBI headquarters. They make the new wife think that Cruz has already been executed. When she and her husband are released, they get back into their car, and she admits to committing the murder.
Little do they know that the car is bugged, meaning Cruz can be set free.
On the upcoming episode, "Forest Green," "The rich and famous may have met their match when Jane breaches an elite men's-only social club in order to find the killer of a woman who was found dead nearby."
Series creator Bruno Heller also shared with TVGuide that the show's season finale will be a "romantic finale rather than a [suspenseful] finale."
Heller reveals that Pike will propose to Lisbon (Robin Tunney). That leads fans to question whether Jane will give the couple his blessing, or if he will reveal his true feelings for Lisbon. Either way, Heller says the show's romantic angle will begin to see a clear ending.
"With the death of Red John, there's a sense of tying [things] up and certainly this romantic angle is one of them," he said.
