Is AC/DC Calling It Quits?
Legendary Aussie rock band AC/DC could be calling it quits--or they could be embarking on the next stage of their illustrious music career.
Conflicting reports out of Australia Tuesday hinted that the band could be retiring, or they could be announcing a new album and tour.
Sources told the Sydney Morning Herald that guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young, 61, cannot play guitar, and rumors are suggesting that he is suffering from a serious illness.
The rumors are swirling just weeks after AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson said the group was laying low in recent months due to one of the band members' health issues.
He told a Florida radio station in February: "One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn't like to say anything, and we're very private about things like this, so we didn't wanna say anything. And he's a very proud man."
However, the band also booked studio time in Vancouver on May 1 to work on their follow-up album to 2008's "Black Ice." Yet, it is not known when the session was originally scheduled, or if it's been changed.
There have also been rumors of a world tour, and Johnson has indicated that they could be planning 40 shows to "thank the fans for their undying loyalty."
Back in 2012, Angus Young also hinted that a tour was in the works.
He told Sky News, "We have such diehard fans, old and new. We've survived many changing fashions of music - we've outlived the lot of them... Now we're thinking, 'How can we ever better the 'Black Ice' world tour?' But we will."
Representatives of the band have not yet responded to questions regarding the group's retirement or possible tour.
