Student Says Yale Made Her Eat Junk Food to Gain Weight

After being threatened with getting kicked out of Yale University for being too thin, Frances Chan wrote about her frustrations with forced weight gain and the Ivy League school in an article that has since gone viral.

Chan, a 20-year-old student who is 5'2" and weighs 90lbs, claims she began force feeding herself junk food like Cheetos and ice cream in an attempt to gain weight because the college thought she had an eating disorder. She says the institution demanded that she gain weight and agree to weekly mandatory weigh-ins and medical appointments or be expelled on medical leave.

Initially, she complied with officials and began stuffing herself with carbs, however, she only gained two pounds, which she says was not enough for the school. Chan also says that her parents confirmed that she, and the rest of their family, are naturally skinny and that the family doctor contacted the school to prove that she was healthy. But, nonetheless, Yale wouldn't let up. As a result, the New Jersey native published a provocative article about her struggle with her weight and the school on Huffington Post.

In the article, Chan says she felt pressured to eat large amounts of food.

"They won't look past the number on the scale, to see the person right in front in them," Chan wrote.

"I don't have an eating disorder, and I will not let Yale Health cause me to develop one."

In a statement, Yale says that "the health and welfare of all of our students is our primary concern," reports ABC News.

Now, Chan says a new doctor is using more than just her weight to assess her health and that Yale has agreed to let her stay in school with check-ins every semester.
