Powerball Winning Numbers & Results August 7, 2013: Three Tickets Win $400 Million Jackpot
The August 7, 2013 Powerball drawing has already taken place and results from Powerball's official website show the following winning numbers:
5, 25, 30, 58, 59, Powerball: 32
The lottery jackpot reached a whopping $400 million, and according to Powerball's official website, there are three jackpot winners for tonight's draw. One winnning Powerball ticket was bought in Minnesota, while two were bought in New Jersey.
The pot prize for the next draw is estimated at $40 million or $23 million in cash value.
Last Saturday, a Powerball ticket won $2 million after matching 5 out of 6 winning numbers including the Powerball. Had the ticket matched all 6 numbers, the $300 million jackpot could have been won.
The $2 million-win was due to the "power play" option which doubled the supposedly $1 million winning prize. The winnning ticket was purchased at the Valero convenience store at 901 Bunker Hill Road in West Houston, Texas.
Tonight's win is only the 4th biggest win in U.S. Powerball history, with Gloria Mackenzie still holding the biggest win ever. The 84-year old woman from Florida won a staggering $590.5 million last May after matching all the five winning numbers and the Powerball number.
According to Powerball's website, the odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 175.2 million with over 45 states playing the game of chance including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington D.C. A Powerball ticket only costs $2 and allows buyers to pick 5 numbers from 1 to 59, as well as a Powerball number from 1 to 35. For an additional $1, betters can choose the "Power Play" option, increasing the original jackpot prize.
Winning numbers for Powerball are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night at around 10:59 PM Eastern Time. The winning numbers and results are then posted on Powerball's official website.
