Liverpool Rumored to Make Transfer Bid for Chelsea Attacker Andre Schurrle
English Premier League giant Liverpool FC is brewing a potential move that would add more venom to their already potent attacking unit. The Reds plan to make an £18 million ($29.84 million USD) bid for Chelsea attacker Andre Schurrle, a league source reported on Thursday.
Liverpool is trying to collect more assets and acquire players capable of assuming big roles within the system. With goal-scoring machine Luis Suarez being eyed by several big ball clubs for a big time transfer deal this offseason, the Reds will look to purchase some insurance in case the Uruguayan striker decides to leave Anfield.
There are reports already circulating that manager Brendan Rogers has no plans in re-acquiring Victor Moses, who played below expectation in his loan tenure with Chelsea FC. Instead, the Reds' bench tactician could make a move for Schurrle.
"Brendan Rodgers is said to be keen on bringing in further attacking options, especially with an eye to those who can fill wide roles, and the Anfield boss is unlikely to pursue Victor Moses who hasn't impressed during his loan spell at the Merseyside club," Caught Offside reported.
Shurrle arrived at Stamford Bridge right after the return of Jose Mourinho as Chelsea's main man on the sideline. The Portuguese managed to bring the German international with an £18 million ($29.84 million USD) bid to his former German Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen club.
There are speculations Liverpool might need to shell out the same amount the Blues spent for the service of Shurrle, who finally broke through his early struggles and started delivering goals for the Reds in the later part of the season. The German footballer came through with a hat-trick in an away game against Fulham FC and then scored another goal in a 6-0 domination of Arsenal FC in March.
Football insiders feel a potential move of the 23-year-old Shurrle to Anfield is possible, especially if Mourinho continues to put a hard cap on his playing time, and Liverpool, currently first in the standings, goes on to clinch the EPL championship.
