Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana News: Adrien Broner to Face Carlos Molina in Undercard
Adrien Broner will look to bounce back from his first loss when he collides with Carlos Molina on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana showdown on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Broner, who was being touted as Mayweather's heir apparent, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Maidana in their WBA welterweight title showdown in December last year.
But despite absorbing his first defeat and after being floored twice, Broner, who holds a 27-1 record with 22 KOs, is confident he is still the same man who went undefeated in his first 27 fights.
"I had minor setback but I am back on May 3," Broner said. "Everybody needs to understand that I just took a loss. I haven't lost it. I'm still 'The Problem' and anyone can get it, whether you are African, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban or Mexican."
Broner will not have a walk in the park, though, since Molina is also itching to bounce back from his first setback, losing to Amir Khan in December 2012.
The 29-year-old Molina knows that Broner will be favored to win their upcoming showdown, but the California native is confident that he has what it takes to defeat Broner.
"I am so excited to be able to fight on a card of this magnitude against Adrien Broner," Molina said. "Sure he's tough but we all saw what happened in his last fight when he was under pressure. I have the boxing ability and punching power to beat him and that is exactly what I plan to do on May 3."
Aside from the Broner-Molina showdown, J'Leon Love will also be featured on one of the pay-per-view undercards against Marco Antonio Periban, while Khan will go up against Luis Collazo on the main undercard.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said that the reigning pound-for-pound king instructed him to make sure that the undercards will be very appealing to fight fans.
"This is a testament to the strength of a boxing event that involves Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions," Ellerbe said. "It will definitely be a moment no one will want to miss. Floyd gave his orders to make sure these fights were part of this show and we were able to make it happen."
