Nick Cannon Accused of Racism After Posting Picture in 'White Face'
Nick Cannon posted a picture of himself on Instagram, where he is several shades lighter and has blonde hair.
"It's official... I'm White!!!" he captioned the photo.
Cannon turned white to promote his new album "White People Party Music." The photo was met with criticism, and accusing him of being racist, said Fox News.
"This is so f--king offensive," said one user. "What if Britney spears made herself black and put a pic up that says 'it's official.. IM BLACK,'"
Others said it was a double standard, and that if one group isn't allowed paint their face, another shouldn't either.
"I think black people need to stop this sorta thing if everybody else has to. White people have had good humor about this for decades with comedians...," the user said. "That's been an ongoing joke for decades and I think it's tired and old."
It's a fairly complicated issue as everyone has taken some sort of problem with the situation. Some think the media is pitting races against each other, and that instead, people look stupid for falling for it.
Cannon, however, didn't take it too seriously.
He Tweeted, "Damn I didn't now it was going to be this hard being White! ... I'm exhausted with all this 'privilege' LOL #WhitePeopleProblems"
He also added, "Hold up... What the F#ck is 'White Face'??? Did I just create a new term??? Nice!!! LOL"
Earlier this week, he explained to Us Weekly why he had chosen the name for his album. He said "white people are having more fun than anybody" at parties.
Another photo commenter was upset by this comment, saying that one group is certainly not having more fun and that his description does not categorize everyone.
