'Arrow' Season 2 Episode 16 Spoilers: Will Batman Villain Harley Quinn Be Recruited in the 'Suicide Squad?' [Video]
Unfortunately, "Arrow" fans will have to wait an extra week before The CW airs another all-new episode; however, the next installment will be well worth the wait—it will feature the premiere of the "Suicide Squad."
In the episode, which is aptly titled "Suicide Squad," "Spartacus" star Cynthia Addai-Robinson will guest star as Amanda Waller. She will assemble an elite team of villains to help defeat Slade aka Deathstroke. The team will consist of Floyd "Deadshot" Lawton, Bronze Tiger and Shrapnel. However, Diggle and Lyla will be apprehensive about leading the team since each member could possibly become bigger threats than the team's actual target.
Meanwhile, Oliver will seek his Bratva connections for help in tracking down Slade, although the mobsters may not be willing to assist the Green Arrow this time around, reports ScreenCrush.
"Arrow" co-star David Ramsey dropped a spoiler about what to expect in the March 19 episode, telling TVLine that in addition to flashing back to a Diggle/Lila/Afghanistan adventure alluded to during Season 1, "There's a bigger story with the Suicide Squad and ... their involvement perhaps with Team Arrow in the future. There's a lot of set-up for the season finale... Big stuff."
The Internet has also been buzzing about the prospect of Batman villain Harley Quinn joining the "Suicide Squad." The buzz was fueled by a 20-second promo that lingered on one shot of a blonde woman with her back to the camera. Her matted hair appeared to be up in pigtails signaling to fans that the woman may be Harley Quinn.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim made a comment about the Harley Quinn speculation, telling ComicBook that "this is NOT the special announcement - that's episode 219 and this is 216" and "to paraphrase Aaron Sorkin: 'There's gonna be an episode of Arrow. I'd watch.'"
The CW issued a synopsis about "Suicide Squad," which states: "Following Slade's (Manu Bennett) return and his promise to make good on his threat to destroy Oliver's (Stephen Amell) loved ones, Oliver focuses all his energy on preparing for battle with his former friend. Sarah (Caity Lotz) tries to help but, fearing for her safety, Oliver pushes her away."
The synopsis continues, "Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) is recruited by Amanda Waller (guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and A.R.G.U.S. to stop a warlord (guest star Lee Majdoub) he knew from his time in Afghanistan. Always the solider, Diggle agrees to help. However, he's not prepared when Amanda introduces him to the rest of the team - Deadshot (guest star Michael Rowe), Bronze Tiger (guest star Michael Jai White) and Shrapnel (guest star Sean Maher), all criminals he and Arrow helped put away. Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Anderson) defends the team and explains the world is a complicated place, but Diggle isn't sure he agrees. When the mission takes a dangerous turn, Diggle is forced to make a difficult decision."
In addition, for viewers wondering if there is hope for a reconciliation between mother and son now that Arrow's Oliver knows Moira had an affair with Malcolm Merlyn, TVLine's Ausiello says, "From all appearances, not any time soon - especially given his behavior this Wednesday in the presence of mom's rakish new friend, Mr. Slade Wilson."
S2E16 "Suicide Squad" airs Wednesday, March 19 at 8 p.m. EST on CW. Watch sneak peek clips below.
