WWE News & Notes 2014: Potential Wrestlemania XXX Plans for The Shield, Kurt Angle Considering Returning to WWE
Big plans are expected for The Shield, with Wrestlemania XXX less than a month away, with two potential matches being discussed for the upstart crew.
One possibility, according to F4WOnline.com, is a Triple Threat match between US Champion Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns, culminating in the break-up of the stable at the pay-per-view, while another report has Reigns and Rollins teaming up against Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of the Wyatt Family, with Ambrose putting his U.S. title on the line against Intercontinental Champion Big E in a title unification match.
If Big E does not defend against Ambrose, one possibility being contemplated is having the Intercontinental champion defend the title in a Triple Threat match against Cesaro and Jack Swagger of the Real Americans - who appear on the verge of going their separate ways. Other potential matches being discussed for Wrestlemania XXX are Christian versus Sheamus, Goldust versus Cody Rhodes, and a bout featuring two NXT stars.
Speaking of NXT, the young guns of WWE's development program showed off their talent on the newly launched WWE Network live show NXT ArRival. Sami Zayn (formerly known as indy circuit's masked star El Generico) and the Real American's Cesaro stole the show, in a rematch from their classic 2013 Two-out-of-Three Pinfalls match, with Cesaro coming out victorious in a match that lived up to the hype. Emma, who made her main roster debut earlier in the year, failed in her bid to win the NXT Women's Championship, tapping out to Paige in match that showcased the future of the Diva's division.
NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension held on to their titles after fending off former WWE Tag Team Champions Too Cool - Scotty Too Hotty and Grandmaster Sexay. CJ Parker defeated Mojo Rawley, while Xavier Woods and Tyler Breeze battled to a no-contest after Alexander Rusev demolished both competitors after interfering their contest. NXT ArRival's main event featured NXT Champion Bo Dallas defending his title against Adrian Neville (formerly known as PAC prior to signing with WWE) in a grueling Ladder match that saw Bo Dallas lose his title to Neville to end the show.
With some of the NXT talent expected to be on the roster in the near future (Rusev, who participated in the Royal Rumble is set to make his debut after Wrestlemania XXX), NXT is looking to bolster their roster. WWE has extended invites to former Ring of Honor (ROH) World Champions Roderick Strong and Kevin Steen. The WWE is also looking at ROH's Michael Elgin and ACH as well as Drake Younger of All Pro Wrestling.
The WWE is still interested in New Japan Pro Wrestling's (NJPW) Prince Devitt, who met with TNA Wrestling when they toured Europe in January. Devitt described his meeting with TNA officials during the Dublin, Ireland stop as a "courtesy," saying he prefers to work with the WWE if he were to make the leap to the American market. While the WWE has promised him a short stint in their development program, Devitt is believed to be leaning on staying with NJPW.
"Of course it's on my radar; it'd be silly of me to say it's not on my wish list of things to do in life," said Devitt to TheWrestlingMania.com. "It's very flattering because I grew up watching WWE, but to be even considered employable by a company like that is a big honor for me. I'm very happy with what I'm doing now but if the situation came up and it was the right move I'd like to try it."
Two names possibly returning to the WWE's main roster are Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle. "The Whole F'n Show" confirmed to his Twitter that followers that he intends to return to the company before SummerSlam while rumors in the dirt sheets run rampant that Angle plans to finish his career in the WWE starting in September, after his contract with TNA Wrestling expires.
"I can't lie to myself anymore, I can't lie to TNA, I can't lie to WWE, yea, there is that desire to go back," Angle told the UK's The Sun. "I just don't know when. Could it be this year, maybe? Could it be next year, maybe? I don't know yet"
WrestleZone.com reports that Angle told several people at the Arnold Classic - a sports convention named after Arnold Schwarzenegger - last week that will return to WWE barring any no-compete clauses in his TNA contract.
