Manny Pacquiao News: Carl Froch Says Pacman Should Retire if He Loses to Timothy Bradley Again
Manny Pacquiao will look to avenge his controversial loss to Timothy Bradley when the fighters collide in their much anticipated rematch on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But if Pacquiao fails to defeat Bradley again, British boxer Carl Froch said that the Filipino boxing icon should consider retirement.
Froch told On The Ropes Radio that the 35-year-old former champion is already in the twilight of his career and said that it makes no sense for Pacquiao to fight again if he loses to Bradley in their rematch.
"He's in the twilight years and if he loses now in the rematch to somebody that he's already lost against then maybe the writing is on the wall, he'll decide that, see how the rematch goes first, see how the fight goes," Froch said.
Pacquiao is coming off an impressive performance against Brandon Rios in which he manhandled the 27-year-old Texas native en route to a one-sided unanimous decision victory in their WBO International welterweight title fight in November.
But before beating Rios, the former pound-for-pound king absorbed two-straight losses that hurt his reputation as the top fighter.
Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight title to Bradley in June 2012, which was followed by a devastating sixth-round knockout loss to his long-time nemesis Juan Manuel Márquez during their fourth fight in December 2012.
When asked if he thinks Pacquiao will strongly consider hanging up his gloves if he loses to Bradley again, Froch said he believes that the eight-division champion would seriously consider it.
"Would Manny Pacquiao consider retirement if he gets beat? He probably would do, he probably would consider retirement because he's had a couple of losses now late on in his career and where would he go if he lost to Bradley again?" Froch said.
Froch added that he is convinced Pacquiao is still eyeing a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr., but a loss to Bradley will officially end the hopes of boxing fans aching to see Pacquiao and Mayweather go toe-to-toe.
"He will probably want to beat Bradley and then get that fight that's never happened against Mayweather, and I couldn't see that happening if he lost to Bradley," said Froch, who is set to defend his IBF and WBA super middleweight title, on HBO, in a rematch against George Groves on May 31.
