'Star Wars Episode 7' Casting Rumors: Fans Want Nathan Fillion in New Film
With casting having begun for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII" film, Nathan Fillion is on the top of many fan lists as a dream choice.
Ever since November, fans have campaigned for the actor to be involved in the film. A facebook page entitled "Nathan Fillion For Star Wars Episode VII As Dash Rendar 2015," was also created to generate buzz for the actor. While the page only has 66 fans, many publications are writing about him as an option for the new film.
In November, the Hollywood Reporter wrote an article about actors who could potentially be in the upcoming installment. Fillion landed a spot on the list, with the publication stating, "Nathan Fillion's built a career playing that guy, capable of doing the action, selling the romance, getting the laughs. (Also, he's played a smuggler on a spaceship before. Just sayin'.)"
A petition was also created on Change.org for Disney to cast the actor in the film. The petition stated, "Cast Nathan Fillion in Star Wars: Episode VII. Nathan Fillion is the perfect casting choice for a Han Solo type character! Make it happen." The petition obtained 50 signatures from various fans.
The latest request for the actor came from the fan based "Star War Episode VII" facebook fan page. One Fan said, "He was Gunnery Sgt Buck in Halo Odst. I think he has an awesome vibe about Star Wars. I could see him being a rebel leader, rebel agent, or a commando. I think he is a gunslinger type. Most definitely YES!" while another wrote, "Hell ya!!! Bounty Hunter or Jedi Knight. Grown up child of Han and Lea? Ideas are endless with him."
Fillion is best known for his work in "Serenity," "Slither," and "Monsters University." He was also seen in "Much Ado About Nothing" and the TV series "Castle."
"Star Wars Episode VII" will be directed by J.J Abrams and produced Kathleen Kennedy. The film is currently in the casting stages with Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill rumored to reprise their roles from the original trilogy. Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron are reported to have auditioned for the upcoming film.
Disney is expected to announce more details on the project in August during their annual D23 expo with sources stating that part of the cast will be revealed.
"Star Wars Episode VII" is set for release in 2015 with production slated to begin in 2014.
