Mexico vs. Panama Recap, Video Highlights, Analysis: CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013 Semifinals
Mexico will not get a chance to face the USA in the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. That honor will go to Panama who defeated Mexico 2-1 for the second time in two weeks.
The Canaleros defeated Mexico in the opening match of the tournament and repeated the feat on Wednesday thanks to a 61st minute goal from Ramon Torres.
The loss is the latest humiliation suffered by El Tri in a tough 2013. The team has struggled in the World Cup qualifiers with one win in six matches and was subsequently defeated in the FIFA Confederations Cup last month by Italy and Brazil during the group stage. The Gold Cup embarrassment could potentially end the tenure of coach Jose de la Torre.
Here are Twitter reactions to the match with the Mexican fans' reactions creating a lot of buzz.
@thuggnessa : Oh well both teams went balls out, Panama just played a little harder than Mexico. Way better game than Honduras vs USA though.
@oliverhuerta1 : The Mexico fans are throwing beers at the Panama players lmao
@Harsh_Voice : Mexican fans being Mexican fans. Keep throwing soccer ball and soft drinks on the field. You're just stalling Panama and hurting Mexico.
@thejsCO : How do you know there are Mexicans in the stands at the #goldcup? Beers are being launched onto the field. Welcome to Texico
@daviiflores : I really don't know how Panama beat Mexico twice in the matter of two weeks
@tatersbolles : S/o to Panama for beating Mexico and ruining my hopes of a USA v Mexico game in Chicago on Sunday. Now I have to settle for Panama v USA
@Alexis27R_ : Congrats to Honduras And El Salvador like always supporting other countries that play vs Mexico
