Sugar Shane Mosley Believes Floyd Mayweather Will Easily Defeat Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana [Video]
Reigning pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. is expected to announce his opponent for his next bout on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It is no secret that the undefeated American is choosing between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana, but for veteran boxer Sugar "Shane" Mosley, Mayweather's decision about who to face in his next bout will not make much of a difference.
Mosley, who once attempted to hand Mayweather the first defeat of his storied career, said that Khan and Maidana has contrasting skill sets, but both of them will be easy opponents for Mayweather.
"Amir has speed, but I think the style of Marcos Maidana might be a little harder for Floyd to fight. But I still think Floyd beats both guys fairly easy. Amir Khan is very fast, awkward. Marcos Maidana is the same thing, very awkward," Mosley said in an interview with HustleBoss.
According to Mosley, who almost floored Mayweather during the second round of their showdown in 2010, the 36-year-old American is still currently on top of his class at this point, saying that the only fighter who can put a blemish on Mayweather's record is Floyd himself.
"The only person who can beat Floyd right now is Floyd. Maybe his age will get the best of him, we don't know. Floyd is an excellent fighter," Mosley stressed.
Mayweather's Next Opponent to Be Named Soon
Mayweather has been mum about his next fight since conducting a survey among his fans of who to fight next—Khan or Mayweather—but Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer recently said that the Grand Rapids native's announcement will come soon.
"There is always a lot of work and preparation with a Mayweather fight. We are not weeks away, but days away [from an announcement]. It's up to Floyd Mayweather on when he wants to push the button, meaning that he will release his announcement on Twitter. In the meantime, I think people should keep a close eye on his Twitter, because suddenly it's going to come," Schaefer said in a BoxingScene interview.
Recent rumors indicated that Mayweather has already picked Maidana as his next opponent, but the Argentinian champion's camp denied reports, saying that they are also waiting for Mayweather's announcement about his next bout.
