DayZ News: PS4 and Xbox One Version of Game Possible According to Creator
DayZ could be coming to consoles in the near future according to the creator of the game Dean Hall despite not yet having an official release on PC.
The popular open world zombie survival game is still in the Steam Early Access phase, but that has not stopped Sony and Microsoft from trying to see if they could get their own version of the game once it is completed. In addition Hall seems very open to having his successful project be ported to new platforms.
"We'd certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model," Hall said to Gamereactor. "It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside."
This move would make sense, as both Sony and Microsoft have actively sought out different indie developers and pushed them to release games for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Interestingly enough, while the PlayStation 4 has had early success with indie games such as Don't Starve and Outlast, Hall appears to be leaning more towards Microsoft currently.
"I've not personally had the opportunity to view the full details of the PS4 whereas I have had the opportunity to talk extensively with Microsoft," Hall revealed. "The next-gen consoles show very exciting promise. I'm hopeful that they can deliver on that."
"An important part of that, from my perspective, is encouraging and supporting third-party creative development to bring the "edginess" of PC creative development into the console. I think if the role of Kinect/voice expands to where it is desired it could do some awesome things. I just think it's too early to say at this point."
Despite the interest that DayZ is drawing from console manufacturers, Hall is steadfast in his belief that the PC is the best gaming platform available, saying "I personally feel the new consoles have yet to prove themselves able to rival the PC experience, however I feel there is the potential from both."
In any case, those interested in trying out DayZ can purchase the game on Steam for $30. The early build of the game has managed the sell over 1 million copies, but some competition has emerged in the form of Rust. Rust, which until recently also featured zombies, is an open world survival game that has also sold 1 million copies on Steam Early Access, and both games have the chance to become the next big thing in indie gaming.
