Bungie Destiny News: New Mount Revealed Before Sept. 9 Release Date [Trailer]
A new vehicle has been revealed for Bungie, the newest game created by former Halo developer Bungie. The Shrike is a personal craft that players will be able to use to move quickly around the worlds of the game.
"The world of Destiny is an immense frontier. Your missions as a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth will cover a lot of ground," Bungie explains on the Destiny website. "To propel you from one location to the next, no matter which destination you're fighting to recapture, there is the Shrike. It swallows the landscape like a bird of prey with an insatiable appetite for scenery; be it the crimson dunes of Mars, the lush jungles of Venus, the dusty craters of the Moon, or the rusted wastes of our own homeworld."
The personalized hovercraft will be able to deliver players to their destination, but the Shrike is not built for battle; Shrikes are made for speed and agility. "We wanted to give Guardians the experience of having a glorious beast to convey them from place to place - something that represented them," said Bungie lead concept artist Isaac Hannaford.
Shrike vehicles can be summoned by a player during the game, so if users do not wish to traverse the wide open worlds found in Destiny, they will be able to call up the sleek vehicle with the push of a button. Bungie employee Tom Doyle believes this option will help Bungie leave a lasting impression. "Getting from point A to point B should be fun... not a menu option," said Doyle.
To help make each Shrike stand out, users will be able to customize and upgrade their own vehicle in a variety of ways. In the very beginning of the game users will have a Shrike that will have a paint job based on their class of character, and players will be able to upgrade the Shrike over the course of the day. As players progress through the game and level up their character, the Shrike's paint job will change to show this progression.
Many different vehicles will be available in Destiny, but the Shrike is the first to get an extensive preview from Bungie. The game will be available on Sept. 9 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and will be the first new IP Bungie has worked on since the Halo series.
