NBA Trade Rumors 2014: Phoenix Suns Could Acquire Memphis Grizzlies All-Star Zach Randolph
The Phoenix Suns are expected to become active players before the NBA trade deadline as the team continues to look for an impact frontcourt player that would boost their playoff chances this season.
NBA analyst David Aldridge reported that the Suns are very interested in acquiring Memphis Grizzlies All-Star Zach Randolph before the Feb. 20 trade deadline.
The Grizzlies were reportedly shopping Randolph earlier this season, but it is unclear whether or not they still intend to trade the 32-year-old power forward.
It should be noted that the Grizzlies were struggling earlier in the season, but they are now just 1.5 games behind eighth-placed Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference standings.
Sources said that the Grizzlies might still move Randolph for the right price. Grizzlies executives are reportedly high on the potential of Ed Davis, who is tapped to take Randolph's role if he is traded before the deadline.
The Grizzlies are reportedly looking to acquire an impact wingman in any deal for Randolph. The Suns have the assets - young wingmen and future picks - to entice the Grizzlies to trade Randolph.
"The Suns were reportedly the latest team to ask the Grizz about Randolph. He would be a perfect fit in Phoenix, a 270-pound docking station for all those satellites firing threes around him." Aldridge reported.
Randolph, who is averaging 17.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season, could become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Previous reports indicated that teams are shying away from trading for Randolph because of his contract status, but the Suns are reportedly convinced that the 13-year-veteran will not opt-out of the final year of his contract that pays him $16.5 million next season.
The latest rumors involving the Suns indicate that Phoenix is one of the active teams on the trade front at this point.
The Suns recently engaged in deep talks with the Los Angeles Lakers about a potential trade for veteran center Pau Gasol. Talks between two teams have stalled, but sources believe that the Lakers and the Suns will revive talks a few days before the deadline.
Aside from Randolph and Gasol, the Suns are also reportedly interested in acquiring Carlos Boozer, Josh Smith, Larry Sanders, Omer Asik, Anderson Varejao, and Spencer Hawes.
