'Arrow' Season 2 Episode 14 Spoilers: The Clock King Seeks Vengeance in 'Time of Death' [Videos]
Last week's episode of "Arrow" really spiced things up when Nyssa Raatko, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, made a guest appearance on the show to bring Sara back to the League of Assassins.
In one scene, Nyssa planted an unexpected kiss on Sara. Executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim revealed the story behind the surprise twist and teased what will happen to Sara now that she's home.
Kreisberg told TVLine that the decision to have a romantic relationship between Nyssa and the younger Ms. Lance "was really more about Sara than anything else. We thought about this at the beginning of the season. If you watch [Episode] 205, there's a reference to 'the beloved' and 'you think that's going to keep you safe.' We talked about, 'Does Ra's al Ghul have a son?' Then we were like, 'Could it be Talia?' We felt like Talia had just been done in the movies." Ultimately, a writer suggested Nyssa, which "felt like something new and different."
Kreisberg continued on stating that their relationship is not meant to be "salacious", but rather, "it's a pretty chaste relationship from what you see on screen. For us, it just touched on a couple of interesting things like the idea that Sara found herself in this terrible world and found this one person who treated her with love and kindness."
And although Sara ends up reuniting with Oliver at the end of the episode, "We actually specifically avoid using the term 'bisexual,'" points out Guggenheim. "We didn't want to label her at all."
The next installment of "Arrow," titled "Time of Death," will air after the Olympics on Feb. 26.
The CW released two exclusive promos, revealing that upcoming episodes will feature a number of villains, including The Clock King, a brilliant criminal who plans his crimes with great precision, played by guest star Robert Knepper, reports ComicBook.
Episodes airing after the show returns are "just villain, villain, villain, great big villains, one after the other," including some "returning favorites and a couple of amazing brand-new ones," said Kreisberg.
According to Hypable, the official synopsis for Episode 14 states: "Oliver (Stephen Amell) brings Sara (Caity Lotz) into the Arrow team. Watching Oliver and Diggle (David Ramsey) spar with Sara and talk old scars, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) starts to feel left out. The team is investigating a villain named William Tockman, a.k.a. The Clock King (guest star Robert Knepper), who is a brilliant thief armed with technology that can open any bank vault in Starling City. After The Clock King infiltrates the computer systems in the lair, Felicity feels pressure to prove her worth. When she gets a lead on Tockman's whereabouts, she heads out without the team, putting her in peril. Meanwhile, Oliver throws Sara a welcome home party, but Laurel (Katie Cassidy) refuses to attend. After Lance (Paul Blackthrone) makes his case for a family dinner, Laurel acquiesces, but when Oliver shows up with Sara, she loses her temper on both of them."
Later on in the season, Kreisberg teased that Katrina Law will return to reprise her role as Nyssa.
And for viewers wondering if Sara and Oliver are officially a couple now, the EP says "That's actually part of the journey of these next five episodes. Oliver has not had many successful relationships, and part of him and Sara moving forward is [the question of], 'Is this something that can work given both of our [pasts]?'"
Furthermore, when "Birds of Prey" airs on March 26, The Huntress will be "consumed by this vengeance that she has for her father," the EP told TVLine, adding that she is now all but rid of her Helena identity and looking "very haggard." When she goes to dispatch with her father, "Laurel gets caught in the crossfire," prompting Canary to fly to the rescue. "It's a fun episode in that you get a lot of Laurel with the Canary, not realizing that it's Sara," says Kreisberg. "It's really an episode about Sara realizing where she's at in her evolution as a hero."
