Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Fashion: Ranking the Flashiest Figure Skating Costumes

By Yara Simón| Feb 11, 2014

Figure skaters know how to put on a show in all sense of the word. That’s why there are two things you should expect when watching the sport: amazing tricks and loud costumes. Here, we rank the flashiest costumes of the Olympics:

6- Ashley Wagner
Her bedazzled ensemble is easy to spot, but the black fabric helps temper what could be a much more in-your-face look. But she is easily the sparkliest of the USA Olympic team.

5- Natalia Popova
This outfit is also black, but she shows that black doesn’t have to be simple. The sequins are spread out throughout the tiger-printed dress, which easily makes her figure skating unlike anyone else’s. She also has a sparkly barrette, and wears see-through gloves that give her a Kim Kardashian-esque Met Gala feel.

4- Jason Brown
A peasant shirt that’s green, glittery, embroidered and can be tied is a showstopper. But Brown didn’t stop at just that. His black pants are also embroidered along the leg, and he’s wearing a thick belt. He knows how to do flashy.

3- Andrea Davidovich and Evgeni Krasnopolski
These two are a perfectly matched couple, something that other figure skating pairs fail to do. Both wear a few shades of purple, but what really makes Davidovich’s outfit stand out is that the illusion netting on her arms is also accessorized.

2- Paige Lawrence
This fringed corseted figure skating outfit has all the makings of a flashy outfit. It’s sparkly, has different colors and it looks amazing when in motion. She also adds fingerless gloves to really drive it home.

1- Tatsuki Machida
Everyone else should go home and quit trying because Tatsuki Machida is the flashiest figure skater that ever was. Fiery red feathers decorate the top half of his shirt and even cover some of his arms. There’s also gold sequins in geometric shapes and a smattering of silver sequins below. This is how you successfully put on a show.
