'Reign' Season 1 Episode 12 Spoilers: Clarissa Kidnaps Catherine's Children, Lola and Francis Grow Closer [Video]
On the latest episode of "Reign," viewers discovered shocking revelations about Catherine's life, including that she has an illegitimate daughter.
In "Inquisition," Queen Catherine (Megan Follows) and King Henry's (Alan van Sprang) past is explored, revealing that at one time, they really did love each other. The sexual tension between them is apparent, and they end up in bed together.
King Henry's old friend Richard, who was exiled from court by the Queen a while ago, returns to find a reason to sentence the Queen to death. It's then revealed that Richard and Catherine are lovers.
Later, Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland) is chained up as a prisoner after being accused of sleeping with Queen Catherine.
The mystery of Clarissa (Katie Boland) is then finally revealed; Clarissa was under the care of Nostradamus' father when she was a baby, so Nostradamus feels responsible for her. She was born deformed with a birthmark on her face, which was seen as a sign of the devil. Nostradamus' father tried to rid her of the mark, which made her face even more deformed.
Catherine cries when hearing the story, showing that she possesses a rarely seen emotional side. Then it becomes clear why she's crying: Clarissa is her daughter, and Richard is the father. Clarissa was disowned by Catherine and was sent to a convent.
Later, without a second thought, King Henry beheads both Richard and a guard.
Meanwhile, Bash and Mary are trying to save Isobel's baby by sending her to a wet nurse, who will then send her to a convent.
Catherine then poisons Mary (Adelaide Kane) while she's in the tub and holds a knife to her throat to prevent her from escaping. Clarissa tries to save Mary and her mother, revealing her face in the process.
Guards break into the room, and Bash (Torrance Coombs) gets Mary out of the bathtub, saving her life. Bash saves Mary twice in the episode (he saves her earlier from being stabbed in the wet nurse's home), so Mary finally opens her heart to him, and tells him they are now navigating the trials of court together.
In the next episode, "Royal Blood," King Henry's children will be kidnapped.
The synopsis for "Royal Blood" reads: "When Clarissa (guest star Katie Boland) kidnaps the younger children of King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) and Queen Catherine (Megan Follows), Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Bash (Torrance Coombs) work with the Queen to find them, with tragic results. Meanwhile, when Lola (Anna Popplewell) attempts to help her brother with a debt he owes, Francis (Toby Regbo) rescues her, causing the two of them to grow closer. Caitlin Stasey and Celina Sinden also star."
