NYFW 2014 Rewind: The Best & Worst Moments of Fashion Week So Far
The week is hardly over, but already so much has happened. One of the most anticipated shows has already taken place, Victoria Beckham showed a more mature collection, and there have been the usual number of complaints. Here's what the fashion crowd has been loving and hating the past few days:
Rotating Platform: What Alexander Wang was able to accomplish in a bigger space was amazing. The ornate set allowed for a futuristic set and a memorable finale, complete with rotating platform.
British Vogue Hates Brooklyn: As everyone pointed out, Alexander Wang decided to show in Brooklyn at The Duggal Greenhouse. The magazine complained about the location, especially because of the icy conditions. "And so, in a not-so-fun game of the blind leading the blind, a convoy of town cars circle streets in search of Wang autumn/winter 2014. As the cars pulled up the elusive Ship Way Avenue, more than half an hour later than scheduled, a collective this-had-better-be-worth-it rippled through Wang's particular warehouse of choice."
Chocolate Wall at Opening Ceremony: Last season, Opening Ceremony staged one of the largest shows. This season they had a white wall that oozed Belgian chocolate. The designers wanted it to be a great for the senses. Mission accomplished.
Older models: This is old in model years, of course, but the latest New York legislation treats models less than 18 as child performers. This season has more models between 20 and 24 as a result.
Gold Dress Parade at DVF: Diane Von Furstenberg celebrate 40 years of the wrap dress, and she ended her show with a spectacular display of gold dresses that called to the '70s.
The Beckham Family Sat Front Row: Last season we saw David Beckham joined by his adorable daughter, but this season we saw the entire family come out to support Victoria Beckham. It was just as adorable.
Nude Eyebrows at Alexander Wang: This show was really a big deal, and with good reason. On top of the theatrics and fashion shin guards, the models were also reminiscent of Miley Cyrus. Perhaps we'll see this trend pop up more in the future.
Comfy at The Row: The Olsen twins spent years perfecting that cozy, but slightly disheveled look. At their latest presentation, they sent oversized chunky knit sweaters and pants down the runway. It basically looks like shag carpeting.
Couture Worthy at Delpozo: Spanish brand Delpozo debuted a few seasons ago at New York Fashion Week with a collection filled with the most intricate details. It hasn't strayed from that model, and continues to be a fashion favorite. Our only question: When will Delpozo premiere in Paris for couture week?
